Production process

3 weeks... That is the time between the moment the onion arrives on site and the moment it leaves again in a fully laden Wiskerke lorry. During this time, the onion undergoes a number of quality controls. In this way, we can guarantee you will receive a safe product in optimum condition. And we can also deliver a fresh product from storage throughout the year.

How our process works

Wiskerke Onions guarantees delivering onions of the highest quality throughout the year. And to fulfil such a promise, the basis has to be good. Fortunately, we do not have to travel far for this. Our onions are harvested by the best growers, close to Wiskerke. Together, we monitor the quality of the end product: from the first shoots of growth up to transportation. Just like Wiskerke Onions, a large number of our growers are Global G.A.P certified and we work together to ensure an optimum and sustainable crop.

The growers

Wiskerke Onions guarantees delivering onions of the highest quality throughout the year. And to fulfil such a promise, the basis has to be good. Fortunately, we do not have to travel far for this. Own storage and drying area

Wiskerke Onions has the capacity to dry harvested onions and to store them in long-term cold storage. Our production site is fitted with climate-controlled storage and drying facilities and various packaging lines. Through the combination of the right varieties, high-quality cultivation and investments in our storage expertise, we can preserve our onions all year round. This means that together with our growers, we offer a year-round fresh product that is exported worldwide. And we will be taking this a step further in the near future by ensuring our drying facilities are sustainable. Wiskerke Onions will use the residual heat from our neighbour and potato-processing company Lamb Weston / Meijer for the drying process of the onions. This will help us make significant reductions in natural gas and CO2.

Quality control

The onions of Wiskerke Onions are recognised worldwide for their excellent quality. It is something we monitor very closely and have complete control of through our mechanical and manual checks.
Our globally unique grader is equipped with an infrared laser that scans each onion inside and outside. The onions are sorted by internal quality, size and colour. Finally, an additional quality control takes place by hand. We also work in accordance with the strict quality standards of Global G.A.P. and are BRC certified.

Wiskerke Onions can provide a packaging solution to meet all your needs, irrespective of how small or large they are. We work with various packaging lines, so that we can handle requests for both small nets and large bulk consignments. We deliver our products in 500-gram nets to 25-kilo bags.
